Meeting Professionals International Southern California Chapter (MPISCC) enjoyed Happy Hour at the historic J Restaurant & Lounge in the South Park district, a great way to experience the renaissance of Downtown Los Angeles. We gathered on the patio to mingle while working on trivia questions related to the history of Downtown Los Angeles. Seeking out the answers from other attendees was a great ice breaker. Introductions were followed by an exchange of answers, contact information and great conversation.
Other highlights of the evening were the welcoming of student attendees and the opportunity to meet with prospective board members for the 2010/2011 Board Year. Abundance of student attendees are eligible for sponsorship through participation in MPISCC’s Sponsor a Student Program. Members are always invited to volunteer on a committee and increase their involvement in the chapter. This is so appreciated.
Our gracious host and the owner of J Restaurant & Lounge, Sergio Davarro, welcomed us with a wonderful selection of passed hors d’oeuvres and a nice selection of beer and wine from the bar. The tasty bites were a reflection of the creative menu options available for events and dining. The multi-functional patio, which is tented during the winter months, has its own separate entrance from the primary structure and features a bonfire pit, a full bar, cabanas, décor and ample seating designed to accommodate various group sizes. J Restaurant & Lounge is within walking distance of the Los Angeles Convention Center, the Staples Center and L.A. Live. The complexity of the space makes it an ideal location for group events. The overall design of the venue is conducive to a buyout, in whole or part, and includes a small VIP dining area which features state-of-the-art presentation equipment suitable for meetings or intimate dinner gatherings.
The ultra-hip setting contributed to the success of the evening, but it was the participation and support of the members that provided the essential final touch.
